AID Appeal for Tidal-Wave Disaster Relief

Usually, mother nature provides comfortable nurturing. However, from time to time the elements seem to lose control and disaster follows often unexpected and of unimaginable magnitude. As you probably already know, starting with the worst affected state, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, Kerala have all been hit severely by a tidal wave, the so called Tsunami.

Although the full magnitude of the disaster is still being assessed, unquestionably thousands of some of the poorest of our fellow Indians have been rendered helpless. AID volunteers in India are involved in providing immediate succour. We in the Diaspora here should do everything that we can to help out. We seek financial help from you for this cause. Let us all come together to show our loved ones that, no matter where we are, we care deeply for their welfare. Please help and help generously. Contributions to AID can be made through secure on-line credit-card deductions from AID's website: where further details and updates will also be made available. Please indicate that your contribution is for the "Relief and Rehabilitation Fund". Contributions can also be sent by check made payable to "AID" mailed to:

P.O. Box F
College Park, MD-20741, USA.

(Please indicate "Relief and Rehabilitation Fund" in the check memo)

AID is working with our partners to support various relief proposals including prompt approvals up to the $7,500 AID has already committed. AID estimates the amount already committed will only cover a fraction of the relief effort. Therefore, AID is appealing to all members of the community, including its volunteers, and many supporters to contribute generously toward this effort.

Aid and Donations for the Earthquake & Tsunami Survivors

For those who would like to help the survivors of the devastating Tsunami that struck Tamilnadu and other parts of India, I have posted a link below, through which you can contribute your donations.

It does not focus on India alone, but rest of the affected countries and regions too.
This animation gives a clear picture of how the shock waves travelled and hit the shores as Tsunami.

Karunanidhi passed away? A rumour?

There was a rumor in Chennai today at around 1100am that Karunanidhi passed away. Earlier in the day he was hospitalized for some back pain. Immediately as the rumor spread that he passed away, around 1100am, some vandals started to wreck havoc in the city, and shops were closed and 2-3 vehicles were burned.

Where are the fan clubs of filmstars?

It's been more than 24 hours after the Tsunami struck the coast of Tamil Nadu. I haven't heard any news of any filmstar asking his/her fan club or the so called 'Rasigar Mandram' to help the locals in the search and rescue operations. If someone has done that, please let me know. I expected them to have done this within the first 24 hours. If no one filmstar has done that, then all I can say is they are pathetic.

Tsunami in Tamil Nadu, India

The first news that I read today morning as soon as I got up was about the Tsunami that hit Tamil Nadu and other parts of India and south east Asia killing more than 3000 people as of now. These tidal waves were triggered by a massive earthquake -- 8.9 on the Richter scale -- that hit the Indonesian island of Sumatra.

Immediately I remembered reading something about a predicted earthquake in
I dugout the article and here it is

Even thought it's not accurate as in the article, it's very close and we still can't rule out any other worse possibilities. Let's hope nothing like that happens.

Iam glad that Iam a fan of Fox & Friends, Fox News. Only they seem to be covering this Tsunami extensively.

You can get a graphic map of the various earthquakes around the world here

Today one of my friend told me to 'GO TO HELL!!!'.
So I decided to check out the place.
Man...that place is so crowded you have no idea.
I was talking to one of the guys there and he told me that 'hell' is so crowded and the workload is so high, that they are planning to 'outsource' some of their jobs to 'heaven' where the guys are without any work.
For that reason and due to some reorganization at the upper management, they are not taking any more guys into 'hell' until further notice. YAY !!!

Karunanidhi's interview to India Today

Q. Does Sonia Gandhi have leadership qualities?
A. She became an excellent leader by sacrificing the prime minister's post.

Eh…so that means, …eh….you are not an excellent leader, because you did not sacrifice chief minister’s post???

AB Vajpayee…Manmohan singh….???

Well…yeah, what the heck, you don’t have to be an excellent leader to run an administration.

Q. If you were the chief minister, would you have taken action against Jayendra Saraswati on the charges that have been raised?
A. If I were the chief minister, these charges might not have come up against him.

Hmmm….makes sense…I don’t think it will be tough to ‘take care’ of the charges.

Q. What will be your slogan for the assembly elections?
A. The slogan will be 'Remove the Dictator'.

And if you win the elections will the slogan be ‘Be a Spectator’ ?

Today I tried to track my car shipment. Looks like my car has been booked on the vessel FIGARO.
According to it's sailing schedule it should reach New York, NY on Jan 6, 2005.

Day 6 : Danke Deutschland

Today was the last day of my trip. Yea, I had a short vacation. I wish I had 2 weeks time. There are so places to see and things to do in Europe. Even 2 weeks may not be enough. But anyway, Iam glad that I got at least 6 days for a dream vacation. I checked out of my hotel today morning and entered the address of E.H. Harms GmbH & Co shipping company in my navigation computer. The company is located at Robert-Bosch Strasse 13, but I was unable to enter 13 in the navigation. When I entered 13 it took it as 5(or 7, Iam not sure which one). Anyway, I thought it’s just next to my destination and started driving. I felt bad leaving Innsbruck. It felt like I was leaving home.

Since I had put some 700+ miles on my car, and as it was the last leg of my journey, I decided to cross the 120 mph or 200 kmph barrier. After overtaking few vehicles and making sure not too many vehicles were around me, I pushed the gas and crossed 120 mph. I also took a picture of the speedometer. You know, driving at 120 mph, on a manual transmission, and holding the steering wheel in one hand and taking a picture on other hand, well that’s not so easy. But the control the car had on the road at that speed was amazing.

So after driving for about an hour and half I reached my destination. I had some tough time finding E.H. Harms GmbH & Co shipping company as they did not have a big name board. And surprisingly I don’t know why the navigation DVD did not have their address on it’s database. Anyway, I then parked my car in their lot and signed some paperwork and handed one master key to them. Took some pictures of the final odometer reading and my car and taxied to the airport. Once I got on the plane and it took off, I saw outside the window, and thanked God for making this whole trip a safe and successful one. The view outside the plane was beautiful. I snapped some pictures of it too. The sunset outside my window was a perfect finish to a successful trip.
